Prayer Letter
July 2007
Dear Family and Friends:
Summer’s here again! That means hot weather, more beach trips, vacation time, and more kids having NOTHING to do for two months. Some people look at the summer to be a down time, but for youth workers it’s a PRIME SEASON to spend time with young people.
I’ve heard before that statistically teenagers get into more trouble, have more sexual encounters, and experiment more with alcohol and drugs during the summer season. Does that REALLY seem unreal to you? Think about it. Most young people either work part-time or not at all. Their parents aren’t on vacation with them so they are at work all day, and kids have the whole house to themselves. I don’t know about you, but that seems like the BEST time to have friends over for those several hours.
So what do we do, just expect it? Well, we might not be able to monitor them 24/7, but spending time during the summer days is a good way to continue to be that example to them AND influence their friends as well. This is what we at Youth For Christ do best!
So these are my summer plans: spending time with kids and building better relationships with churches.
Along with these tasks I’m working on a big project. I’m currently planning out a ONE DAY 3-on-3 basketball tournament. I’m planning on hosting this event on Saturday, August 18th in the Youth for Christ parking lot. I have a lot of ideas and I’m getting some great progress but even with all the talent in the world, I couldn’t do it alone. If you want to somehow be a part of this (referee, planning helper, resources, etc.) please contact me IMMEDIATELY by email at jleon@liyfc.org and put “BBALL TOURN07” as the subject header or you can call me at 631-385-8333. If you just want more info, email me and I’ll send it your way.
Lastly, we have our annual GOLF OUTTING occurring this August 6th. This fundraising event has been PHENOMENAL every year and we’ve heard nothing but positive feedback. We would LOVE for you or your business to attend. For more info, call into the office and ask for Heather.
Thank you for your diligence in reading and support. Please consider partnering with me to do more this summer. Enjoy it!
Sincerely,
James Leon Long Island Youth for Christ 631-385-8333 ext. 13
