Prayer Letter
July 2007,
Dear Friends and Family,
As you read this letter, I am headed off to Central America with a team of 12 students and two additional adults to serve the people in the villages of Belize. This is my fourth trip to the area and I am more excited than ever. Here is a glimpse of what we’ll be up to…
This Project Serve team will be working with Oasis Ministry under the direction of missionaries Ron and Linda Braaten. Ron and Linda are native to Long Island and always enjoying when they get teams from “back home”.
Each morning our team will be serving as teachers and helpers for a summer school program that includes children from toddlers to teens. We will reinforce what they should have learned during the regular school year as well as teach them Bible stories and songs.
Our team will also help daily with whatever construction projects are in process while we are there. This can include home repairs, painting, general clean up and construction.
In addition to the teaching and construction work, the team will be actively involved in direct ministry with the Oasis programs. We will participate with the local churches in their weekly worship and outreach services. We will have many opportunities to share our stories of how God has worked in our lives in one-on-one relational ministry activities as well as sharing with entire congregations. We will also be ministering to children, teens and adults through drama and music.
The trip includes a day of rest, relaxation and celebration on one of Belize’s beautiful Caye Islands. There will also be other times to experience the culture by visiting Mayan ruins or villages, eating out at traditional Belizian restaurants and exploring the rainforest.
The biggest need we have for this mission is the faithful prayers of our family of believers. I have challenged the students to personally ask people to pray for them, the team as a whole and the Belizian people. I am asking you to be a part of this special prayer team as well. Use my calendar as a guide to pray for specific people and situations. May God receive all the glory for the work of His children.
In His Service,
