Eddie deScioraI am now entering my freshman year at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Campus Life has provided me not only with a place where I can grow spiritually, but a place where people care deeply for me.
I started attending Campus life in ninth grade with my friend Jake Nerzig. His sister Emily always insisted we go to at least one Campus Life meeting and see how we liked it. Needless to say, Jake and I really found a place where we could flourish as people. We meet countless people even our first year. The impact Campus Life had on us was immediate. Jake and I used to be shy and insecure, however Craig and the other leaders at Campus Life incorporated us into every game and made us feel like we’d known him for years. It’s been at Campus Life that I’ve broken out of my shell and have become an ambitious person. One Campus Life trip that really affected me was when we went down to Mississippi in 2007 to help clear the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. This trip was very influential because it brought us really close as a group and taught us that God wants us to help others through their plights. One especially fond memory I have of that trip is sitting on the beach singing worship songs and just watching the tide roll out. We prayed for each other that night and I can speak for all of us when I say that we felt a true connection to God during that trip. Campus Life has affected my life in more ways that I can imagine. It was one of the first environments I felt completely secure and happy with myself. It gave me great role models in our leaders and it gave me the strength to strive for a closer relationship with God. As I leave for college I know that I will never forget the life lessons I have learned through Campus Life. I know I’ll visit every time I get the chance! |
